SURGERY

Elmed Center opened its doors originally to only the performance and research of plastic & reconstructive surgery.  In the early years all forms of reconstruction were undertaken but specialization took hold for breast reconstruction post mastectomy.  After that specialization continued into nasal reconstruction. 

New operations were developed and new surgical tools were engineered.  The instruments were constructed by Black & Black instruments with the understanding that any profit the company received would do directly to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

One of the most personally satisfying operations involved partial reconstruction of a very deformed nose.  Two rib grafts, a surgical time of 7 hours and many months of healing eventually provided the patient with a much better outcome.
