The Elmed Center was founded by Ronald P. Gruber, M.D. as a medical and surgical facility located at  3318 Elm St. Oakland, CA in the ‘Pill Hill’ community of the City of Oakland.  Originally, it had two medical offices and one surgery center.  Research and laboratory investigations were always conducted on the surgical side.  Currently,  one medical practice occupies half of the facility leaving the other half available for another medical practice or research.

Over the years the years the facility has been administrated by Mrs. Gloria L. Gruber, an attorney and former judge pro temp for Alameda County.  During that time Dr. Gruber was also on the clinical faculties of both UCSF and Stanford Medical Center.  Residents from the departments of surgery were able to assist him in surgery performed at the Elmed Center.

Through the years a large variety or research has been conducted.  This would include clinical trials and the engineering of specialized instruments for surgery.  At the same time research has continued to be conducted in the fields of experimental psychology, neuroscience. and theoretical physics. The goal of a truly interdisciplinary approach was always kept first and foremost in mind.

The latest engineering project was the construction of a ‘backwards in time virtual reality apparatus.’   Link to ronaldpgruber.com for the major works involving the study of TIME.

Recently, attention has been turned to an environmental issue, the potential hazardous nature of barbecue smoke and what can be done about it.
